Description

Start With The Cartridge Dimensions And The Insert

The insert is the most critical element in cartridge packaging because it is the only thing standing between the cartridge and a damaged product. A die-cut paperboard insert sized to the cartridge body holds the unit upright and keeps it from contacting the box walls. A foam insert gives additional cushioning for glass cartridges and communicates premium positioning through the insert quality itself. A clear plastic tray keeps the cartridge visible inside the box, which works well for products where the oil color or the hardware design is a selling feature. We builds the insert from your cartridge dimensions before any other specification decision is made. You share the size and we design the insert around it.

Choose A Box Style That Works For Your Display Format

Marijuana cartridge boxes are typically small and compact, but the style choices still matter for how the product presents in a dispensary. A standard tuck end carton is the most common format and works well for most retail dispensary environments. A sleeve and tray style creates a premium reveal when the tray slides out. A window box displays the cartridge before opening, making the hardware or oil appearance visible at the point of purchase. A hang tab can be added to most formats for peg display in dispensaries that use hook-based product arrangements. We help you choose the right style for your display context and your brand tier.

Pick Materials And Finishes That Match Your Oil Product’s Positioning

A live resin cartridge positioned at the premium end of the dispensary menu deserves packaging that communicates that positioning clearly. A standard distillate at an accessible price point needs clean, clear packaging that does not overstate the tier. The material and finish you choose should match where the product sits in the market. SBS paperboard with a matte lamination suits most premium cannabis vape formats. Kraft board suits brands with a natural or minimalist vape aesthetic. Soft touch coating adds a tactile premium quality. Foil stamping on the brand mark or the oil type callout signals a high-value product to a dispensary buyer scanning a display. We guide the material and finish selection based on your product and your pricing context.

Make The Most Of A Small Print Surface

A cartridge box has a small outer surface, and every square millimeter matters. The front panel communicates the brand and the most important product details in a clear, compact hierarchy without feeling crowded. The side panels carry supporting information. The back panel handles any additional content. A clean, well-spaced design with the strain name and oil type as the primary focus, supported by potency and format details, improves readability on a small surface. We plan the print layout for your cartridge boxes to present the most important information clearly at retail display distance.

Think About Upright Display, Peg Hooks, And Counter Placement

Your dispensary display determines the structural features your cartridge box needs. Shelf displays require a stable base and enough height for visibility, peg displays need a durable, well-positioned hang tab, and counter displays require dimensions that fit the tray. We design cartridge packaging to match your display format and adjust the structure to suit your retail environment.

Plan A Range System For Multiple Oil Types And Strains

Most cannabis vape brands run multiple oil types and multiple strains. Planning a packaging system for the range rather than individual one-off boxes for each SKU keeps the brand looking organized and reduces per-unit setup cost. A shared box structure with oil-type and strain-specific artwork versions covers the full range efficiently. Color coding by oil type or strain family makes the dispensary display easy for buyers to navigate. New products launch quickly on the existing format without a new structural specification each time. You can connect the cartridge range visually with the broader Cannabis Cartridge Packaging format if you sell through multiple channels.

Artwork Preparation Guide

Cut Line (Black Line)

Indicates the cut at its final size. Important artwork and text should be placed at least 0.125 inches inside of the cut line.

Perforation (Dotted Black Lines)

Perforation line refers to paper that is punched with very small holes to allow the paper to be torn and folded easily.

Bleed Line (Red Lines)

Indicates where the bleed line is located. Any artwork which goes to the cut line should be extended to the bleed line to get a seamless print.

Crease Line (Green Lines)

Indicates where the product is to be folded.

Safety Margin (Dotted Green Lines)

Indicates where artwork and text should safely be placed inside. As an industry standard, all artwork should at least be placed 0.125 inches away from the cut line unless your design is intentional.
