Candy Boxes: Sizes, Materials and What to Specify

Key Takeaways

  • Decide food contact first. Whether the candy touches the board, a liner, a film window or nothing at all changes the material specification before any dimension does.
  • Candy cartons are small and sell by facing, so the front panel proportion matters more than total volume. Design the face you want, then work the dimensions back from it.
  • A window patch shows the product but reduces panel stiffness, so keep the aperture clear of creases and leave board around it.
  • Minimum order is 100 boxes, the cutting die is included, and production starts from about 7 business days, plus 2 to 5 for delivery.

Order at candy boxes. This page walks the specification, and for candy the first question is not size. It is what the product touches.

Food contact comes first

Work out whether the candy sits directly against the carton, inside a wrapper, inside a bag, or in a tray. Each of those is a different material requirement, and it is much cheaper to settle it before a die is cut than after. Tell us which it is on the quote and the board and any liner or coating can be matched to it. Confirming what your product and market require is your call; building to that specification is ours.

The face is the product

Candy is an impulse category. Almost nobody reads the back panel. That makes the front face proportion the single most important design variable, so start there: decide the shape you want facing the customer, then work the depth back from the quantity you need to hold. A tall narrow face and a short wide face can hold identical volumes and perform completely differently on a shelf or at a till.

The display question

If you are selling into retail, ask the buyer two things before you finalise a dimension: the facing width they will give you and the depth of the fixture. Retail gondola shelving is commonly specified in depths around 16 to 22 inches, and a till-point display has far less room again. A carton designed to a fixture you confirmed will be merchandised the way you intended. A carton designed to a guess often will not.

Print and finish

Candy artwork is usually high coverage and high saturation, which is where two practical issues appear: cracking at folds on heavy dark coverage, and colour consistency across a repeat order. Both are worth flagging on the quote so they can be planned for, and both are what the included digital proof is for. Check the proof for the fold behaviour of your darkest colour specifically.

Ordering

Minimum order is 100 boxes. Price starts from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes and is confirmed on your written quote, since board, window, coverage and any display component all move it. The cutting die, the plates, design support, US shipping and a digital proof before anything prints are included. Production runs from West Chicago in the US and Guangzhou in China in three lanes: rush (expedited production plus air freight, a premium of about 7 to 25% depending on the job), standard (air) and cost saver (sea), from about 7 business days, plus 2 to 5 for delivery.

If a window is part of the plan, what a window patch is covers the film choices and placement rules. Send your facing dimensions, your fill quantity and your food contact answer through the quote form, then order at candy boxes.
