Bakery packaging fails in three predictable ways: grease darkens the board, the lid crushes the frosting, and the stack tips in the delivery van. A custom bakery box is worth ordering when you want to fix those things and put your name on the lid at the same time. iBox Factory prints and cuts bakery boxes to your footprint from a 100 box minimum.
Footprints bakeries order most
These are the sizes the trade settles on, and they exist because cake boards, cupcake inserts and sheet pans come in matching increments. Custom sizes are cut to your dimensions, but starting from a known footprint usually saves a round of proofing.
| Box (L x W x D, inches) | Typically holds |
|---|---|
| 8 x 8 x 4 | A 6 to 7 inch round cake on a board |
| 10 x 10 x 5 | An 8 inch round with a piped top |
| 12 x 12 x 6 | A 10 inch round, tall layer cakes, small tiered cakes |
| 14 x 10 x 4 | A quarter sheet, or a 12 count cupcake insert |
| 19 x 14 x 4 | A half sheet cake |
| 7 x 5.5 x 3 | A 4 count cupcake or pastry box |
Depth is the decision people underestimate. Measure the tallest decoration, not the cake, and add half an inch of headroom so the lid never touches buttercream. The wider size table sits on our bakery box dimensions page.
Window or no window
A window sells the product in a display case and adds cost, a film step and a little assembly time. Skip it when the box goes straight into a delivery bag, keep it when the customer chooses from a counter. Windows also weaken the panel they sit in, so on a large lid the frame around the window needs to stay wide enough to hold its shape. Our window box guide covers film choices and frame widths.
Board, grease and contact
Grease resistance is a board and coating question, and it is the part to be specific about rather than optimistic. Tell us on the quote whether the product touches the board directly, whether it goes in warm, and whether the box is refrigerated or frozen. We will confirm the board grade and any coating in writing before you approve the proof. iBox Factory does not issue food contact certifications, so anything your local health authority or your buyer requires should be checked against the written spec we give you.
Printing on a box that gets handled wet
Bakery boxes get picked up with icing on someone's fingers. Heavy full coverage ink shows every mark. A one or two color print on kraft, or a printed lid over a plain base, holds up better in real use and costs less. Foil and gloss lamination look sharp on gift and holiday boxes but are a poor fit for a box that leaves the counter three times a day.
Ordering, wholesale pricing and lead time
Minimum order is 100 boxes, so a single flavor launch or a farmers market weekend is enough to justify a custom run. Unit price falls as quantity rises and starts from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes, always confirmed on your written quote. Production is stated per product in three lanes: rush pairs expedited production with air freight at a premium of about 7 to 25% depending on the job, standard runs by air from about 7 business days plus 2 to 5 days for delivery, and cost saver moves by sea for the lowest price and the longest wait. Die, plates, design support, US shipping and a digital proof are included.
