Electronics packaging carries an unusual load: it has to protect a dense, rigid object, present it cleanly at the moment of opening, and hold three or four loose accessories that would otherwise migrate around the box. Almost every spec problem in this category traces back to the accessories, not the device. iBox Factory builds electronics cartons and inserts from a 100 box minimum.
Start with an accessory inventory
Write out everything that goes in the box, with dimensions: the device, the cable and how it is coiled, the power adapter, adapter tips, the quick start card, the warranty leaflet, spare parts. That list is the insert brief. A cable coiled at 3 inches diameter needs a 3 inch cavity, and a cable simply dropped in loose ends up under the device and dents the lid.
Insert options and what each is good at
| Insert | Protection | Presentation | Cost position |
|---|---|---|---|
| Die cut corrugated platform | Good for weight and stacking | Industrial unless printed | Lowest |
| Folded paperboard tray | Light impact only | Clean, prints well | Low |
| Molded pulp tray | Good, absorbs shock | Recycled and tactile | Medium, needs a tool |
| Foam (EVA or PE) | Best for fragile and heavy items | Premium when black and fitted | Higher, adds depth |
Where accessories are numerous rather than fragile, a divider grid often beats a fitted tray. Our insert packaging page and partition box page cover both approaches, including how much interior space the walls consume.
Retail shelf or parcel network
On a shelf
Retail electronics boxes usually need a hang tab or a euro slot, a clear spec panel, a barcode zone that is not printed over artwork, and enough panel rigidity that the box does not bow when hung. Decide the hanging method before the die, because a euro slot needs a reinforced top panel.
In a parcel
If the retail box ships alone, it is now a shipping box and has to behave like one: a stronger flute, a closure that survives handling, and a size that does not attract dimensional weight charges. Plenty of brands run a plain outer shipper over a printed retail box for exactly that reason.
Static, moisture and the honest boundary
Printed board does not provide ESD protection and does not control humidity. Anti-static bags, ESD foam and desiccant packs are components that go inside the box, and they are specified separately. Tell us on the quote what your device needs and we will size the interior to fit those components.
Minimum, price and turnaround
The minimum is 100 boxes, which suits a first production run or a hardware launch still proving demand. Pricing starts from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes and is confirmed on your written quote, since insert tooling and finishing move an electronics package price more than the outer print does. Turnaround is stated per product across three lanes: rush (expedited production plus air freight, premium about 7 to 25% depending on the job), standard (air, from about 7 business days plus 2 to 5 days for delivery), and cost saver (sea, longest and least expensive). Specialty imported builds sit at the far end of that range, up to about 12 weeks. Free US shipping, the die and plates, design support and a digital proof are part of every order, and the work runs at West Chicago or Guangzhou depending on the build.
Send your accessory list with dimensions to our quote form and we will come back with an insert layout and a unit price at your quantity.
