Most eco packaging pages open with claims. This one opens with a limit: iBox Factory does not certify anything, does not claim a certification scheme, and will not print an environmental claim on your behalf that we cannot stand behind. What we can do is help you specify a box that uses less material, travels more efficiently and is simpler to recycle. That is a real reduction rather than a badge.
Start with size, because it moves the most
An oversized box costs three times over. It uses more board, it needs void fill to stop the product moving, and it is charged at a higher dimensional weight in transit. Tightening a box by an inch on each axis is often a bigger environmental saving than switching stock. If you want the method, read how to choose a box size.
Material choices and their trade-offs
| Choice | What it helps | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|
| Uncoated kraft | Simple single-substrate board, no laminate to separate | Colour reproduction is warmer and softer than on white coated stock |
| Skipping lamination | Keeps the box a single paper stream | Less scuff resistance and no gloss or soft touch finish |
| Lighter ink coverage | Less ink, and a lighter box visually | Bold full-bleed designs will not be possible |
| Paper insert instead of foam | The whole pack stays one material | Paper cushions less than moulded foam, so fragile items need testing |
| Reducing board grade | Less fibre per box | Only safe if the loaded weight and stacking allow it, so test first |
Design decisions that reduce waste
- Cut the number of box sizes only after checking the fit. Fewer sizes simplifies buying, but forcing a small product into a large standard box undoes the saving.
- Design for one closure. A carton that needs tape plus a band plus a sticker is three materials in three streams.
- Avoid printing dates and campaign copy on the structural box if you reorder it. Undated boxes do not become obsolete stock.
- Keep the same dieline across reorders. Because the die and plates are included, running the same spec again has no repeat tooling, and no tooling gets scrapped.
Claims you should be careful with
Recyclability and compostability statements are regulated differently in different markets, and some regions restrict which symbols may appear on a pack. Those obligations sit with you as the brand owner. We print the artwork you supply and we will not add an environmental claim to it. If you need documentation about a specific stock for your own claim, request it on the quote so it can be confirmed before production.
Ordering terms
The minimum order is 100 boxes. Pricing starts from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes and is confirmed on your written quote. Die, plates, dieline design support, free US shipping and a digital proof are included. Production runs from about 7 business days, plus 2 to 5 for delivery, and three lanes are quoted per product: rush (expedited production plus air freight, about 7 to 25% premium depending on the job), standard (air) and cost saver (sea). Sea freight is the lower-emission lane per unit and also the cheapest, so where the calendar allows it, the sustainable choice and the cheap choice agree.
Talk it through
Send your current box spec to /quote/ and ask specifically what can be reduced. For stock options, see recycled packaging and the kraft boxes guide.
