Golf club boxes are sized by length first. Everything else, board grade, end closure and print, follows from how long the box has to be and how much that length costs you in freight. Start from the club, not from a chart.
The two published numbers worth designing against
The Rules of Golf set a maximum club length of 48 inches for clubs other than putters, so a single club carton rarely needs to exceed that internally. Separately, major US parcel carriers publish a maximum package length of 108 inches and a maximum combined length plus girth of 165 inches. Those are the ceilings. Confirm the current figures with your carrier, because contract terms and oversize surcharge thresholds change more often than the box does.
Between those ceilings, there is no standard golf club box size. Driver heads, headcovers and grip tape all change the profile, and a fitted single club carton is a different object from a shipper that has to take a full set in a travel bag.
Measuring a club for a carton
- Lay the club flat and measure heel to grip end along the shaft line. Record the number with the headcover on if the headcover ships fitted.
- Measure the head at its widest across the sole, and again through the crown. On a driver this is the number that sets both width and depth, not the shaft.
- Add clearance for whatever holds the club still: a corrugated partition, a shaped end cap, or a sleeve of void fill. A club that can slide fore and aft will find the end of the box.
- State the result as internal length x width x depth and say the word internal on the quote.
Structures used for long goods
| Structure | How it closes | Trade off |
|---|---|---|
| Five panel folder | One blank wraps five sides, end flaps fold in | Double thickness at the long corners, flat shipped, no separate lid to lose |
| Telescoping two piece | Lid slides over base | Depth tolerance for varied club profiles, more board per unit |
| Corrugated tube with end caps | Caps close each end | Good for single shafts, poor for a wide driver head |
For most single club and shaft shipments the five panel folder wins because the long edges are where the damage happens, and the wrap puts extra board exactly there.
Board, print and what to send us
Long boxes flex. The longer the span, the more you want double wall board rather than single wall, and the more a partition earns its cost by stopping the club from moving. Printing on a long narrow blank is straightforward, but keep critical artwork away from the fold lines, because a five panel folder has creases in places a flat box does not.
Minimum order is 100 boxes. Pricing starts from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes, confirmed on your written quote, and the die and plates, design support, US shipping and a digital proof before anything prints are all included. Lead time is quoted per product in three lanes, rush with expedited production and air freight, standard by air, and cost saver by sea, starting from about 7 business days, plus 2 to 5 for delivery. Specialty imported items can run up to about 12 weeks. Production is split between West Chicago and Guangzhou.
The structure itself is covered in more depth on how to size a five panel folder, and five panel hanger boxes is where to order that shape. If you are packing balls rather than clubs, golf ball boxes is the right product. Send the measured club length, head width and your intended retainer to request a quote.
