The folded pail that most people picture when they hear noodle box is a genuinely clever piece of packaging: it ships flat, folds into a leak resistant container with an interlocking top, and opens out into a plate. The specification is short, but every item on it matters.
Capacity, the industry sizes
| Size | Typical use |
|---|---|
| 8 oz | Sides, sauces, small portions, sampling |
| 16 oz | Lunch portions, rice, smaller mains |
| 26 oz | The common single main dish portion |
| 32 oz | Large mains and sharing portions |
These are the sizes the format is commonly produced in across the industry, not a published iBox stock chart. If your portion sits between two sizes, fill both with the real dish and pick from what you see rather than from the number.
The structural decisions
- Handle or no handle. A wire handle needs punched holes and an assembly step. It is useful for takeaway carried by hand and unnecessary for delivery in a bag.
- Top closure. The interlocking flap top is the default and it holds without tape. Confirm it closes cleanly on a full portion, because an over filled pail will not lock.
- Leak resistance. A coated board resists moisture and grease from a sauced dish. Untreated board will mark and soften.
- Board weight. Heavier board holds its shape when full and hot. Lighter board costs less and feels flimsier in the hand, which customers notice.
Food contact, stated plainly
These pails hold food directly. Tell us that at quote stage so the board, coating and inks can be specified for that use, and confirm the suitability of the specification for direct food contact in your own market. We supply what you specify and we do not certify compliance on your behalf.
If your dish is served very hot or very wet, run a real test before committing. A dish that sits in the pail for a twenty minute delivery is a different test from a dish photographed on a bench.
Print, and what it is worth here
Noodle pails are one of the few packaging formats a customer looks at for an entire meal, and for a delivery brand the pail is often the only physical brand touchpoint. That makes print coverage worth more here than on a box that goes in a bin at the door. Full colour outside, a simple inside, and a legible logo on the two faces that sit toward the customer is the usual approach. Our page on packaging artwork file formats covers how to supply the file.
Price, minimum and lead time
Minimum order is 100 units, from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes, confirmed on your written quote. Board weight, coating, handle and print coverage all move the number. The die and plates, design support, US shipping and a digital proof before anything prints are included.
Turnaround runs in three lanes: rush (expedited production with air freight), standard (air) and cost saver (sea), from about 7 business days plus 2 to 5 for delivery, with specialty imported items up to about 12 weeks. Rush carries a premium of about 7 to 25% depending on the job. We produce in West Chicago and in Guangzhou, which is worth knowing if you are timing a menu launch.
To order, go to noodle boxes. If you are also packing sauces or liquids alongside, our guide on packaging liquids covers the containment layers.
