Fragrance packaging fails in two specific ways: the bottle rattles, or the cap fouls the lid. Both are measurement problems, and both are solved before anyone talks about foil. Start with the bottle in your hand.
This is the guide. To price and order the box, go to custom perfume boxes.
Measure the bottle, not the fragrance volume
- Width at the widest point of the glass, including any shoulder that flares out.
- Depth front to back, which on a flat bottle is very different from the width.
- Total height with the cap on and fully seated.
- Cap diameter separately, since a wide cap on a narrow bottle sets the box opening.
- Anything that protrudes: an atomiser collar, a tassel, a hang tag.
Fragrance volume tells you nothing useful here. A 50 ml bottle can be squat and wide or tall and slim, and the box has to fit the glass, not the millilitres.
Construction options
| Build | Why buyers pick it | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|
| Tuck end folding carton | Lowest unit cost, ships flat, standard for shelf and for sets | Needs a good insert to feel considered |
| Rigid two piece | Weight and rigidity in the hand, holds a fitted insert well | Higher unit cost and more freight volume |
| Magnetic closure rigid | Opens like a book, made for a reveal | Extra components, longer build |
| Sleeve over tray | Slide-out presentation, good for a two bottle set | Two printed parts that must align |
Inserts hold the value
For a box that sits on a counter, a die cut paperboard platform is usually enough. For anything that ships, the insert has to stop the bottle moving in all three directions, which usually means a fitted foam or a moulded cavity rather than a flat tray. Glass that can move will find the corner of the box. Compare formats on insert packaging.
Finish, and where it actually shows
Fragrance is the category where finish carries the most weight, and also where it is easiest to overspend. Foil on a small logo reads as expensive. Foil across a whole panel reads as busy and shows every fingerprint. Emboss works when it has a matte field around it. Soft touch lamination changes how the box feels in the hand more than any print choice does, and it scuffs, so it is better on a box that gets bought than on one that is handled for months on a shelf.
Minimum, price and lead time
The minimum is 100 boxes, which suits an indie launch or a limited run. Bulk pricing starts at about $0.48 per unit, with your number driven by size, board, insert and finish and confirmed in writing on the quote. The die and plates, design support, free US shipping and a digital proof before printing are included.
Turnaround runs in three lanes quoted per product: rush pairs expedited production with air freight, standard moves by air, and cost saver moves by sea. The floor is from about 7 business days plus 2 to 5 for delivery. Rigid work with fitted inserts is often a specialty imported item, and those can run up to about 12 weeks, so raise your launch date at the quote stage rather than after the proof. Rush carries a premium of about 7 to 25% depending on the job.
Considering a heavier build, read rigid boxes first. When you have the five bottle measurements, send them with your quantity to /quote/ and ask for all three lanes priced.
