Rush work in cosmetics is usually one of three situations: a launch date moved, a retailer added stores, or a component supplier was late and the carton is now the thing holding up the line. All three are workable. What decides whether a rush actually lands is what you can send us on day one, not how loudly the order is marked urgent.
What has to be true for a rush to work
- Artwork is print ready and built on the dieline we supply, with fonts outlined and images at full resolution.
- Someone can approve the proof the day it arrives. A digital proof always precedes printing, and a proof sitting in an inbox for two days spends the time the rush lane bought you.
- The structure is one that folds flat. Cartons and sleeves compress well in schedule. Assembled builds do not.
- The finish is a single pass. One lamination or one varnish. Foil plus emboss plus spot gloss is three passes and three chances to lose a day.
- The delivery address is confirmed. Air freight to a corrected address is not the same speed as air freight to the right one.
The three lanes, side by side
| Lane | Production and freight | Cost position |
|---|---|---|
| Rush | Expedited production plus air freight | Premium of about 7 to 25% depending on the job |
| Standard | Air freight, from about 7 business days plus 2 to 5 days for delivery | The usual basis for a quote |
| Cost saver | Sea freight, the longest lane | The lowest cost per unit |
Turnaround is always stated per product on the quote, because a slim lipstick carton and a wrapped rigid palette are not the same job. Ask for the lane in writing along with the price.
What does not compress
Wrapped rigid boxes are assembled by hand from separate components, so the build time is real work rather than queue time and it does not collapse under pressure. Multi pass finishing behaves the same way. Specialty imported items can run up to about 12 weeks in the normal course, and a rush request does not change the underlying process, only the priority and the freight. When a date is immovable and the dream structure will not make it, the honest move is to run a simpler structure now and switch to the premium build on the reorder.
Cutting time without paying the premium
- Reorder an existing spec. The die and the plates are already made and included, so a repeat is the fastest thing we can produce.
- Send the artwork before the purchase order. Prepress can start while commercial terms are settled.
- Reduce the finishing to one pass for this run only.
- Split the order: air freight the quantity you need for the launch, and let the balance follow on the cheaper lane.
That last approach is the one most brands underuse, and it is often cheaper than rushing the whole run. Related pages: rush custom boxes for the lane in general, and custom cosmetic boxes for the structures themselves.
Getting a rush quote
The minimum is still 100 boxes, and unit pricing still starts from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes before the rush premium is applied, with the real figure on your written quote. Tell us the date you need boxes in hand rather than the date you want to place the order, and send the artwork with the request to our quote team. We will tell you plainly whether the date is achievable before you commit to it.
