Safety eyewear boxes go wrong in a specific way: the buyer measures a flat pair of reading glasses in their head and orders a shallow carton, then finds that a wrap around safety lens will not lie down. The curve is the whole problem, and it is worth measuring properly.
Measure the pair folded
- Folded length. From the front of the lens to the tip of the folded temple. This is usually the longest dimension and it is what sets the box length.
- Folded width. Across the frame at the hinges, at the widest point of the front.
- Folded height. Stand the folded pair on a flat surface and measure the highest point of the stack. On a wrap around lens this is the lens crown, not the temples.
- Bridge and nose piece. An adjustable or soft nose piece often sticks out further than the frame and will press against a lid.
Add clearance on all three axes. A lens pressed against board for weeks in a warehouse picks up scuffs, and a scuffed safety lens is a returned safety lens.
Retail, industrial supply and direct shipment
| Channel | Common format | What drives the size |
|---|---|---|
| Retail shelf or peg | Folding carton with a window, or a card with a clamshell | Face panel and peg hole placement, not depth |
| Industrial and safety supply | Plain or lightly printed carton, cased in multiples | Case count and cost per unit |
| Direct to consumer | Corrugated mailer sized from the carton, or a mailer alone | Parcel dimensions and crush resistance |
| Kitted with a case or cloth | Carton sized for all components together | The kit, measured assembled |
A pair going into a soft pouch or a hard case is sized from the case, not from the glasses. That sounds obvious and it is still the most common respec we see in this category.
Protection without a moulded insert
A folded corrugated or paperboard insert that cradles the frame at the hinge points costs less than a moulded tray and solves most of the movement. If the lens has an anti fog or mirrored coating, add a sleeve or a cloth so the lens never touches the board directly. Note that an insert consumes internal space: an insert 2 mm thick on each side means the box internal dimension is the frame plus 4 mm plus clearance.
What we can and cannot speak to
We make the packaging. Impact ratings, markings and standards belong to the eyewear itself and to your own testing and labelling process, and any rating or marking you print on the box is your claim to substantiate. Tell us what has to appear on the panel and we will lay it out, including any required orientation.
Ordering, minimum and turnaround
Minimum order is 100 boxes, from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes, confirmed on your written quote. The die and plates are included, plus design support, US shipping and a digital proof before anything prints. Because the die costs you nothing, the box can be cut to your exact folded dimensions instead of rounded up to a stock carton that ships air.
Turnaround runs in three lanes: rush (expedited production with air freight), standard (air) and cost saver (sea), from about 7 business days plus 2 to 5 for delivery, with specialty imported items up to about 12 weeks. Rush adds about 7 to 25% depending on the job. We produce in West Chicago and in Guangzhou. For sports and impact eyewear packaging, see sports eyewear packaging boxes.
Fold one pair, take the three measurements, note whether it ships with a case, and request a quote. We will confirm the board and the insert approach with the price.
