Ask for scarf box dimensions and you will get a different answer from every supplier, because the scarf itself is not the thing being boxed. A folded stack is. Two identical scarves folded differently need two different boxes, and that is the whole exercise.
Start by folding one
Take a production scarf, not a sample offcut, and fold it exactly as your packing team will fold it. Then measure the resulting block across all three axes. Do it twice, because the second fold is usually neater than the first and you want the looser of the two numbers.
Weigh the fabric decision too. A silk twill scarf folds down to almost nothing and holds the fold. A chunky wool or cashmere scarf springs back, and the depth you measured on a fresh fold is not the depth the box will see after an hour in a warehouse.
What the fold pattern does to the box
| Presentation | Resulting shape | Structure that suits it |
|---|---|---|
| Long fold, few creases | Long, shallow, narrow | Apparel sleeve box or a slim shoulder box |
| Squared fold with a belly band | Squarer footprint, more depth | Two piece lid and base, rigid or folding |
| Rolled | Cylindrical, needs a retainer | Tube or a partitioned carton, uncommon for retail |
Clearance, tissue and the belly band
Scarf packaging almost always carries something else in the box. Tissue, a card, a ribbon or a printed belly band each add real thickness. Work out the full contents list first, then add clearance for it on the depth axis specifically, because width and length are usually forgiving and depth is not.
- Measure the folded stack, relaxed, after it has sat for an hour.
- Add the tissue wrap thickness, doubled, since tissue goes under and over.
- Add the belly band or ribbon if it wraps around the folded scarf rather than the box.
- Quote the total as internal length x width x depth, and write internal on the quote so the number is not read as an outside measurement.
Board and finish
Most scarf boxes are folding cartons in a coated board for print quality, or rigid greyboard wrapped in printed paper where the box is part of the gift. Rigid holds a crisp edge and takes foil well. Folding carton ships flat, which matters if you are storing several thousand of them.
Minimum order is 100 boxes and pricing starts from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes, confirmed on your written quote. Die and plates, design support, US shipping and a digital proof before anything prints are included, which is why an internal size cut to your own fold does not cost more to tool than a near-standard one. Turnaround is quoted per product across three lanes: rush combines expedited production with air freight, standard goes by air, cost saver goes by sea. The floor is from about 7 business days, plus 2 to 5 for delivery, and specialty imported items can run up to about 12 weeks. Production sits in West Chicago and Guangzhou.
To order the finished product, custom scarf boxes is the page, and apparel sleeve boxes covers the slim sleeve format if your fold is long rather than square. Send the measured folded block and the tissue plan to request a quote.
