Soap is one of the few products where the item you measure today is not the item you will pack. A cold process bar keeps losing water through its cure, so its dimensions keep shrinking for weeks. Measure a bar that has finished curing, in the state it will be in when it goes into a carton, and most soap box sizing problems disappear.
Measure the cured bar
Take the length, the width and the height at the widest point of each axis. Bevelled or hand-cut bars are rarely perfectly square, so measure several from the same batch and use the largest of each dimension rather than the average. If the bar is wrapped in paper, film or a band before it goes in the box, measure it wrapped. Then add a working clearance: enough that the bar slides in without dragging on the printed inner face, not so much that it slides around and wears the corners in transit.

Sets and multi-bar boxes
For a gift set, do not stack the single-bar measurement and hope. Lay the bars out in the arrangement you intend, with the divider or insert in place, and measure the whole assembly. Dividers consume real width: a set of three bars side by side with two dividers is wider than three bar-widths. If the set will be shipped as well as gifted, the outer shipper is a separate spec again, and the external dimension of the gift box becomes the internal requirement of the shipper.
Print, finish and what soap does to paper
Soap gives off fragrance oils, and essential oils can migrate into an uncoated board over time. If your bars are heavily scented or unwrapped inside the carton, raise it on the quote so the material can be matched to that, and so the digital proof shows the coating you actually want on the inner face. Kraft reads natural but shows oil marks more readily than a coated white board does.
