What Size Belt Box Do I Need?

Key Takeaways

  • Size to the largest belt in your range, not to the sample on the desk, so one box and one die cover every waist size you sell.
  • A coiled belt gives the smallest box and the cheapest shipping. A flat, full length box presents best and costs the most to ship. A folded format sits between the two.
  • The buckle, not the strap, sets the internal depth. Measure the coil or the folded pack at the buckle with it in its final position.
  • Belt boxes start at a minimum of 100 boxes, from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes on a written quote, with the die, plates and a digital proof included.

There is no single belt box size, because the same belt fits three very different boxes depending on how you present it. Decide the presentation, size to your largest belt, and you are done.

Pick the format first

Coiled. The belt is rolled into a spiral and laid flat. Compact, cheap to ship, and the format most retail belts use. The box is roughly square and shallow, sized to the coil diameter with about 1/4 in of clearance.

Folded in half. The belt is folded once, buckle at one end. The box is about half the belt length and twice the strap width. It reads neater than a coil for a wide or stiff belt that does not coil well.

Flat, full length. The belt lies out straight. The most premium presentation, used for dress belts and gift sets, and the most expensive to ship because the box is long and mostly empty.

Size to the top of the range

Belts come in a size run, and a box sized to the middle of the run will not take the top of it. Take the longest belt you sell, present it in your chosen format, and measure that. A single die covering the whole range is cheaper to run and simpler to stock than two boxes, and since the die is included in the job, the larger box costs no more to tool.

Two details that decide whether it looks right

First, the buckle finish. A polished or plated buckle sitting against bare corrugated will be marked by the time it reaches a customer. A tissue interleaf or a paperboard tray with a recess prevents it, and costs very little.

Second, how the belt is held. A coil left loose in a box unrolls in transit and arrives as a tangle. A paper band, a small tray, or a slot cut in a card keeps the coil closed and makes the opening moment look deliberate.

Gift sets and multi packs

If a belt ships with a wallet or a card holder, lay the full set out as it will be presented and measure the assembled group, then size to that. A partition or tray that gives each item its own recess costs a little more and stops the pieces rubbing against each other in transit.

Ordering

The minimum is 100 boxes. Pricing runs from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes and is confirmed on your written quote, with the die, plates, design support, US shipping and a digital proof included before anything prints. Turnaround is quoted per job in three lanes, rush (expedited production plus air freight), standard (air) and cost saver (sea), from about 7 business days, plus 2 to 5 for delivery. Rigid presentation boxes with specialty wraps sit at the longer end of that range.

Tell us the format you want and the longest belt you sell, and we will send back an internal size. Start at the quote form. For the measuring steps, read how to size a belt box, and see custom apparel boxes for related formats.
