Buying cosmetic cartons at wholesale is mostly an exercise in deciding what to standardize and what to vary. The brands that get a good number per unit are not the ones that argue hardest, they are the ones that run several SKUs through one structure and spend their money on the two finishes that customers actually notice.
One structure, many shades
A shade range does not need a shade specific carton. If the tube or compact is identical across the range, one dieline covers all of them and only the artwork changes. That keeps the structure consistent on shelf, reduces the number of specs your warehouse has to hold, and makes a reorder straightforward. Where products genuinely differ in size, group them: two or three structures across a full range is normal, ten is a symptom of nobody having done this exercise.
Where the money actually goes
| Lever | Effect on unit price | Worth doing when |
|---|---|---|
| Quantity per run | Largest single lever | You have shelf commitment or a proven seller |
| Number of structures | Each one is a separate setup | Products really do differ in size |
| Finish (foil, soft touch, spot gloss) | Each adds a pass on the sheet | The finish is visible at arm's length on shelf |
| Board grade and caliper | Moderate, and it changes how the carton feels | The product is heavy or the carton is tall |
| Freight lane | Significant on bulky or high volume orders | Your date allows sea instead of air |
What a wholesale quote should say
Insist that a quote names the board grade and caliper, the print process and color count, every finishing pass, the interior dimensions, and the freight lane. A single number with no spec behind it cannot be compared to anything, and it is how brands end up receiving a thinner board than they thought they bought. Ours states the spec, and pricing starts from about $0.48 per unit at bulk volumes with the run specific figure written out.
Planning a reorder cadence
Cosmetics move in bursts around launches and seasons, so the useful question is not only how cheap the first run is but how quickly the second one lands. The rush lane pairs expedited production with air freight at a premium of about 7 to 25% depending on the job. The standard lane moves by air from about 7 business days plus 2 to 5 days for delivery. The cost saver lane moves by sea and is the one to use for predictable volume booked ahead. Specialty imported builds such as wrapped rigid palettes can run up to about 12 weeks, so those belong on a planning calendar, not a reorder trigger.
Getting a number
If you are starting small rather than buying at volume, the same structures are available at the 100 box minimum through low minimum cosmetic boxes, and the category overview sits at custom cosmetic boxes. For a wholesale quote, send the SKU list with dimensions, your target quantity per SKU and your on shelf date to our quote team, and ask for the price at two quantities so you can see where the curve flattens for your particular carton.
