Custom Joint Boxes

Pre-rolls are delicate and the box they travel in is the thing standing between a perfect product and a crushed, stale, disappointing experience at the point of opening. iBOX Factory makes custom joint boxes that protect the pre-roll from crush and moisture on the journey from production to the buyer’s hand, present the brand confidently at dispensary or retail display, and open with the kind of clean, considered action that communicates a brand worth trusting. From 100 units with free US shipping.

Description

Crush Protection Starts With the Board and the Interior Cavity

A pre-roll that bends under lateral pressure is a wasted product. The box needs walls stiff enough to resist the kind of compression a pocket, a bag, or a tight shelf position applies. We use board grades selected for their resistance to lateral crush rather than just their print surface quality. The interior cavity is sized to the pre-roll diameter and length so the product sits snugly without room to shift and without pressure from a too-tight fit. A pre-roll that arrives with its shape intact communicates a brand that understands its own product.

Aroma Retention Through the Right Material and Coating Choices

A joint box that breathes loses aroma and freshness before the product is opened. We use coating combinations on the interior of joint boxes that minimize vapor transmission without using materials that might transfer odour to the product inside. The box holds what needs to be held inside and keeps what needs to be kept out. For brands selling premium pre-rolls where the aromatic quality is a key product feature, the choice of interior material is as important as the choice of exterior print. We discuss this as part of every joint box brief.

Shape and Scale From Single Pre-Roll to Multi-Pack Presentation

A single pre-roll box is a very different design challenge from a five-pack or a ten-pack. A single pre-roll box needs to feel premium despite its small scale. A multi-pack box needs to organize the pre-rolls in a clear, accessible arrangement without allowing them to roll against each other. We produce joint boxes for individual pre-rolls, dual packs, and larger multi-pack configurations. The shape of each format is chosen based on the number of pre-rolls, the pre-roll dimensions, and the style of brand identity the box needs to carry.

Brand Print That Competes at Dispensary Shelf Distance

A joint box at a dispensary shelf has a small surface area and a significant amount of brand identity to communicate. Strain name, brand mark, product type, and any edition or flavor identity all need to sit on a surface that might be no larger than a matchbox face. We plan print hierarchies for joint boxes with the compact surface area in mind. The most important information is the largest. The brand mark anchors the design. Supporting detail fills the remaining space without crowding the primary message. Full CMYK with Pantone matching keeps the brand colors exact on a print surface where every millimeter of color accuracy matters.

Finishes That Make a Small Box Feel Premium

A soft touch coating on a joint box makes it feel significantly more considered than its size suggests. The tactile quality communicates premium positioning before the lid is opened. Spot UV on a brand mark or a strain name adds a visual contrast that catches dispensary display light. Matte lamination gives a clean, sophisticated look that suits most cannabis brand aesthetics without the cost of a full premium finish. Foil stamping in gold or a custom metallic color communicates a top-shelf pre-roll product at a glance. We produce all of these on joint box scales and guide the finish choice based on the brand tier and the price point.

Child Resistant Options Built Into the Box, Not Added Onto It

Child resistant joint boxes where the safety mechanism is engineered into the box structure itself look and feel significantly better than boxes where a CR insert has been dropped into a standard carton. We produce joint boxes with press-and-slide, squeeze-and-lift, and push-through CR closures built into the paperboard structure. The exterior looks clean. The closure works reliably. The brand identity is not disrupted by the safety mechanism. For brands that need both premium presentation and a secure closure, we produce the box that delivers both without compromise.

FAQs

What board weight prevents pre-roll crush in a pocket or bag?

We select board grades based on the pre-roll dimensions and the expected use context. For pocket and bag carry, we use grades with sufficient lateral rigidity to resist compression without adding unnecessary weight to a small box.

Can joint boxes use an aroma-retaining interior coating?

Yes. We use interior coating options that minimize vapor transmission while using materials that do not transfer odor to the product. We discuss the right choice based on the specific pre-roll product.

What is the minimum order for custom joint boxes?

100 units per specification. Request your quote today.

Can child resistant closures be built into the joint box structure?

Yes. We engineer CR closures into the paperboard structure rather than adding them as inserts. The result is a cleaner exterior and a more reliable closure.

Artwork Preparation Guide

Cut Line (Black Line)

Indicates the cut at its final size. Important artwork and text should be placed at least 0.125 inches inside of the cut line.

Perforation (Dotted Black Lines)

Perforation line refers to paper that is punched with very small holes to allow the paper to be torn and folded easily.

Bleed Line (Red Lines)

Indicates where the bleed line is located. Any artwork which goes to the cut line should be extended to the bleed line to get a seamless print.

Crease Line (Green Lines)

Indicates where the product is to be folded.

Safety Margin (Dotted Green Lines)

Indicates where artwork and text should safely be placed inside. As an industry standard, all artwork should at least be placed 0.125 inches away from the cut line unless your design is intentional.
